Who

CoolChaser is a team of three: Chao, Ming, and Sachiko. We currently run couple of other sites, url.com - a meta search engine and clipclip - an online scrapbook. On Url.com, we noticed that many people were searching for "MySpace Backgrounds".

Why

We wondered why and figured out that many MySpace users wound up at url.com because they followed the dummy link "url.com/image.gif" on MySpace's customize blog page. We blogged about it also and it received massive comments from users not regarding the reason why people search for "MySpace backgrounds" but mostly asking us HOW to customize their MySpace profiles.

We made our own MySpace account just to see how it is like to customize our profiles. We found out that it was actually very hard so we blogged about it again hoping we rescued troubled users (and also so we don't get asked how to customize anymore :)) Surprisingly again, there were 100 of comments (literally) on that blog entry again asking HOW to put a background on their MySpace page!

But this is no wonder, because the thing is there's no official functionality to customize your page on MySpace nor a place to officially include a stylesheet of your own.

Also, we couldn't find any sites out there that offered layouts that were actually "decent." We weren't being picky saying we wanted an award-winning layout, but we didn't want something that looked like a 5 year old built it using FrontPage.

What

So we set a goal to create something that answers the following two huge questions. (ahem)

• Can regular users personalize our own MySpace profiles without tinkering with messy codes?
• Can MySpace actually be beautiful?

When

And fast forward couple of months, now we are happy to launch a whole new MySpace layout editor which we think answered both of the questions above pretty well :)
