What is this site about?
Changing a MySpace layout is so damn hard! We had soooo many troubled users coming to one of our other sites looking how to updated their MySpace backgrounds.
So we wanted to create a site that is so easy for users to change their MySpace layouts that even their grandmas can do it! You can read more on our about page.
-
Why do you ask me for my MySpace login info?
We wanted to make it into 1-2-3 easy steps for users to update their layouts. In order to do that we need to ask user's MySpace account info so we can insert the code on their behalf.
-
Is my MySpace account info safe? Are you trying to spam me???
Yes, it is 100% safe as we DON'T store the MySpace password anywhere on our servers and we only use them to insert or undo your layout.
You can also hopefully tell from tens of thousands of our happy users that we are not a phishing site! Check out our testimonial pages and our users' profiles.
-
If so, why I am able to login to your site using my MySpace info?
When users enter their password to login to our site, we encrypt their password and match it against the encrypted version of the password that we do store on our servers.
We have no ability to unencrypt the password, and as far as we know, neither does anybody else (except maybe NSA!). Thus, this is just to uniquely identify the user to show them their history and link them to their MySpace account.
So, even if hackers get access to our database, they have no ability to retrieve/decrypt any passwords (and neither do we). Please read our blog entry for more details and feel free to contact us if you have further inquiries.
-
What happens if I change my MySpace password?
You can simply create a new layout and we are smart enough to link to your account :) If you just wanted to see your layout history, you can log in using your old password, and once you create a new layout, we update your info with your new password.
Either way, let us assure you that nobody can access your password as we use a technology to encrypt them. You can read our blog for more details.

How do I delete my account with you?

How do I delete your layout from my MySpace PROFILE page?
GAH! Too bad you didn't like the layout :(
Click this link and we will remove it for you automatically (yes, we like spoiling our users)
OR, You can follow this instruction to do it on your own (if you have difficulty, just use the above link, alright?)
To delete your profile layout:
- Log in to your Myspace account on MySpace.com
- Click "Edit Profile"
- Remove everything between the <div class="coolchaser"> tags inside the "About Me" box. IT SHOULD BE ALL THE WAY AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BOX
- Click "Save All" at the top
It might also help to watch our movie on how to update your MySpace profile manually. Deleting is almost the same thing. Just do the reverse.
I receive feedback from many users saying "I tried everything but your layout is still there!" I try my best to help out people and find out that 99.9% of the time they aren't removing the right code. If you are having a hard time finding where the code is, try removing EVERYTHING inside the About Me box (keep a backup of all your text!) and delete them.
Still not right? Did you use MySpace's Profile Editor? They insert their layout differently so you need to go back to their editor and hit "clear all."
-
How do I delete your layout from my MySpace BLOG page?
To delete your blog layout:
- On your user home page under the "control panel", click "Blog"
- Then, you will see your Blog Control Panel. Look for the section titled “My Controls” under your default picture.
- Scroll all the way to the bottom and click ‘restore to default’.
Here's a link to a screenshot Heathaaa! took for those who cannot seem to find the "customize blog" link: http://forums.coolchaser.com/forums/3/topics/312

New layout flashes on screen for a second and goes back to the old one. How come?!
You probably used the Myspace Profile Editor.
MySpace inserts their layout differently from other 3rd party sites such as us. You can't find their code inside your "About Me" box or any other box. That is because they link their stylesheet on the bottom of the users profiles. So, if you used MySpace's profile editor, make sure you go back to it and click "Clear all" which is in between "Restart" and "?" buttons on the editor to clear the MySpace’s style.
Having trouble with Myspace's Profile Editor not working for you?
Click this link and we will fix it for you automatically (yes, we like spoiling our users)
OR, You can follow this instruction to do it on your own (if you have difficulty, just use the above link, alright?)
You have to use INTERNET EXPLORER when you use the Myspace Profile Editor. It doesn’t work in Fire Fox or any other browser.
Here is a video Heathaaa! made showing how to CLEAR ALL from Myspace’s editor!! (Thanks Heathaaa!)
Here are very detailed instructions for deleting your layout from Myspace's editor. Follow them EXACTLY as written!
When you are signed in at myspace.com:
- Click "edit profile"
- On the right side you'll see three choices:
View My Profile
Account Settings
Profile Editor
Click on the last one: "Profile Editor" - Click "Customize"
- On the right side you'll see the "Clear All" button. Click it.
- You'll see a message pop up that says "Are you sure you want to clear all your styles created on the MySpace Profile Editor?" Click "Ok".
- VERY IMPORTANT! If you don't wait for the page to load then you have NOT cleared all! Wait for the page to finish reloading. (again this may take a few seconds)
- Click the "Save" button.
- You'll see a message pop up that says "Are you sure you want to save your profile design?" Click "Ok".
- That's it! You will see your profile when the page finishes loading! :)
Oh---also, you have to be using Internet Explorer to do this. The MySpace Profile Editor *Does NOT* work in Firefox or any other browser.
-
I don't see my background on my profile page!
There could be several reasons to this:
- You have your previous layout's code somewhere in your edit profile form that is messing up the layout. This could be hard to pinpoint, but we can't fix this problem for you. You will have to manually delete those code one by one and see which one is causing it.
- You used MySpace's profile editor and didn't clear their style. See the question above "New layout flashes on screen for a second and goes back to the old one. How come?!" for a detailed explanation.
- The page has not fully loaded yet. The background image loads at the very end so try to wait until the page loads fully.
- Our server is acting wacky. We store the images on a different server so that server might be temporarily down.
- You are looking at your MySpace homepage instead of your profile page. Believe it or not, this happens! View our blog entry about this for details.
-
The auto insert didn't work!
Network conditions and other factors beyond our control may happen from time to time, especially during peak hours, that prevents us from making a layout insert successfully and in such situations, users would have to insert the code themselves.
In this case, try updating your profile manually.
- Log in to your Myspace account on MySpace.com
- Click "Edit Profile"
- Copy and Paste the CoolChaser code (you can find this under your "Current Layout" on my layouts page.)
- Click "Save All" at the top
It might also help to watch our movie on how to update your MySpace profile manually.

My page loads very slowly (some things don't fully load or show up)
Your page will load slowly and do weird things like jumping and your widgets (music players, videos, counters, etc) will disappear and stuff for a few different reasons.
- You have lots of widgets. ( counters, music players, videos, quizzes, surveys, etc….)
- Myspace servers are busy with high traffic volumes.
- Your internet providers servers are busy with high traffic volumes.
- Your computer doesn’t have enough virutal memory (too many programs running in the background, and/or too many open programs running, and/or too much stuff on your desktop.)
THINGS YOU CAN DO TO FIX IT:
- Restart your computer and go get a coffee and come back. (Sachiko does it!)
- Only display a few images and maybe one or two vids or other widgets at a time. And switch them out regularly. Put long surveys or quizzes in bulletins and blogs. (sometimes the code for these things isn’t very good and can conflict with layout codes) Just make bulletin announcements when you make new blog entries and tell your friends to check out your blog! It will make your page load faster and it will be more interesting to come back and visit to see what you will put up next. :)
- There isn’t much you can do about MySpace or your internet providers servers accept email them and complain that they need more servers.
- On your computer: Close any programs you aren’t using, close programs running in the background that you don’t need, clear off and organize your desktop. (if your desktop is cluttered with tons of pictures and videos, and other files etc… you need to put these in folders)
The bottom line:
The more stuff you have on your page at the same time = the longer it will take to load.

I have a "bandwidth exceeded" message all over my layout! What's up with that!
It means that whoever created that theme used up all their bandwidth for their images on Photobucket. Photobucket has a limit for free accounts so if someone makes a theme that gets popular, it’s very easy for that limit to go over. Then, you either have to get another theme or wait it out until the month resets. (the limit is per month, so the counter rests at the end of the month according to the date they signed up for their account.)
If this happens to your own theme, make everybody happy and upgrate your Photobucket account to pro! :) or use a different photo hosting service such as http://www.hotlinkfiles.com. If it isn't yours, you can nag the creator of the theme to upgrade (yes, I upgraded too so it might work!), create your own theme, or get a new theme.
-
Can I get the code instead of providing my MySpace account info?
But then we will get tons of people asking us again how to update their profiles just like we did on one of our other sites :( We wanted to make it as easy as possible so people don't even have to deal with any messy codes!
I guess we have to work hard (even more than now!) to gain our users' trust.
UPDATE 3/4/08: We just launched a sister site CoolChaser.us that lets you grab codes for some of the more popular coolchaser layouts and backgrounds! So if you don't mind dealing with codes give CoolChaser.us a spin!

My layout got messed up! How come my table is....
There are couple of reason.
- You have a code somewhere in your edit profile form that is messing up the layout. This could be hard to pinpoint, but we can't fix this problem for you. You will have to manually delete those code one by one and see which one is causing it.
- You are looking at your MySpace homepage instead of your profile page. (heard this somewhere already?) Believe it or not, this happens! View our blog entry about this for details.
- You used MySpace's profile editor and didn't clear their style. See the question above "New layout flashes on screen for a second and goes back to the old one. How come?!" for a detailed explanation.
If it's none of the above and you think it's our fault let us know.
-
My friend's box (or contact box, font, network table, etc etc) is not showing up!
Most probably, the code from your previous layout was still there and is conflicting with our code. Make sure you delete them and that should solve the problem!
If you used MySpace's profile editor, make sure to clear their style. See the question above "New layout flashes on screen for a second and goes back to the old one. How come?!" for a detailed explanation.

I have a band profile and your layout doesn't look quite right.
There are couple of reasons band layouts might look weird.
- Banner overlapping the menu on top Put this code AFTER the CoolChaser code in the "Bio"
section.
<style> body table { margin-top:298px; } .cc_banner { top:217px;} </style> - There's no padding in the Bio box. Put this code AFTER the CoolChaser code in the "Bio"
section.
<style> table table td.text table { border-collapse: separate;} </style>
- Banner overlapping the menu on top Put this code AFTER the CoolChaser code in the "Bio"
section.
Layouts, layouts, layouts!
-
Your layout sucks.
LOL this was an actual feedback we got for real! I don't know which layout he/she was talking about but here's some tips to make a layout that is not sucky. :)
- Fuzzy image? You can add "wallpaper" to the search query, for example you can type in "beyonce wallpaper" and you will get good quality background images which are very well designed too.
- Try to match the right theme. If it's a girly background, butterfly theme would work, but industrial theme won't. Also, if you have a dark background, avoid the xray black theme and vice versa (white text on white background) or the text will be illegible.
- Use engines wisely. For celebrities, try using Yahoo! or Google for better results (with "wallpaper" again for better quality). For abstract words like "cats", "grunge", "urban", "skateboard" Flickr will give you better results.
-
Is it possible to have different layouts for my profile and my blog?
Yes, of course! Just follow these steps:
- Create a layout that you want for your blog first
- Click "Update Profile"
- You should have the same layout for both profile and blog
- Then, create a layout that you want for your profile this time
- Uncheck the option " Use this layout for my blog also"
- Click "Update Profile"
- You should have a new layout for your profile but blog the same as before

How do I get the background image to cover the whole screen?
AH~ you must have a huge computer monitor! What we do is we resize the background image to 1024px wide which is more than 50% of Internet users' display size according to W3C. So if the background doesn't cover your screen, you must have a bigger computer monitor than most of the other people.
But don't despair! Here's a little tip. Usually, what matters more is probably the height, rather than the width. So, since we don't resize the height, try to create or find an image that is longer in height. If it's a wallpaper, you can download it and tweak the height to cover your screen but leave the width as it is and use that as a background. It works like a charm!
Here's a link to a detailed tutorial on our forum: http://forums.coolchaser.com/forums/2/topics/77

Can I name my layout that I created using my own photo as a background?
We are indeed planning to add the feature for user to add their own keywords to the layout. Stay tuned :)
-
How come I can't change the font size and color using your editor?
We find many of the other profile generators out there way too complicated...and too much work! They have miniscule options like "do you want to change the 'you have XXX friends' XXX's font size and color???"
Therefore, we try to make our editor as simple as possible. By adding the font size and color options, we think it's going to lead people to ask even more and will eventually make our editor as complicated as the others generators out there.
UPDATE: we now have a Theme Editor that lets you use make all the miniscule decisions! Go to the Theme Editor, select the theme that you want to tweak and publish it as a new theme so other people can use it too!
-
Why do I have your banner on the top left and inside my "About Me" box?
We really worked hard on building this software so in return for offering this service for free, we need to have that banner there so other users who liked your layout will try out our site.
We wish we were independently rich so we don't have to worry about these things, but we need to pay our bills also and so we hope you understand.
That said, we are more than happy to remove the banner for a small fee. Let us know if you are interested.
Themes, themes, themes!
-
You need more themes.
Good news! We just launched our brand new shiny Theme Editor that lets you create and submit your themes for thousands of users to use!
You need to have created at least one layout using our Layout Editor before because we want only loyal users to submit their themes! :)
-
How come I can't submit a theme with a background?
The Theme Editor is to create just the themes so it won't come with a specific background. Users will combine the theme with a background of their own choice.
It’s going to be a bit more complicated process than using our Layout Editor (although easier than any other MySpace Layout Editor!) so you need to have some design skills to create a theme that goes against a variety of backgrounds.
-
What's in it for meee?
But aren't you sick and tired of the boring existing themes? It's time for you to step up! Show off your design and creative skills!
-
Would my theme show up immediately on the Layout Editor?
It is sorted by popularity, so if your theme is popular it will show up right at the start! Are you motivated now? :D
-
My design skill sucks! I don't want it to appear on the Layout Editor!
How modest! No problem, just don't have a thumbnail for your theme and it won't show up on the Layout Editor
Known Bugs
-
My Flash widgets (slides, youtube, music player) isn't showing up?
You must be a Mac user! We are all Mac users too and it is a known Firefox bug. Basically, if you have a see-through layout using the CSS opacity, the Flash element on top of it disappears.
Fixing this bug actually causes another bug for Internet Explorer 6 (using png doesn't work on IE6) so we will implement the fix once we get the majority of our users switch to IE7. In the meantime, Mac Firefox users, make an opaque layout (you can select it from the option tab) or go with the fully transparent themes (xray white, xray black)
-
I'm using Firefox and the horizontal scroll bar disappeared!
You must have chosen the "flip tables" from the option tab and flipped your profile. Firefox for some reason gets confused when you do that so it doesn't recognize how wide the page is. There are some fixes: (WARNING: this could be advanced techniques!)
- Keep your layout tight!! It is considered "bad design" to have the horizontal bar in the first place, so try to keep your
layout not wider than the typical browser size (around 800px to 1024px)! I know you want to add lots of slideshows, pictures, but people won't be able to see your page
clearly if it becomes hard to navigate.
Try at least putting your friend's space lower so it doesn't destroy the layout as much. You can do this by adding the code:
</td></tr></table>
at the END of the "I'd like to meet" box on your "edit profile" form. - Put a hacky code. OK, so you don't wanna take out all the slide even if your layout is all snake eye (empty in the middle and
contents spread on the left and right) you can put this code at the end of the "about me" box in your "edit profile" form.
<style> body { width:800px; overflow:auto; }</style>
Change the number "800px" to the width of your whole page. Yes, you have to do that manually, most probably it's something like "1200px" or something.
If you are confused about all these code, just choose NOT to flip your profile. That's the easiest way.
